Nerja is a picturesque coastal gem with excellent options for a variety of activities, suitable for couples, friends, families, or solo travelers. Getting around Nerja and its surroundings is easy by taking a bus or renting a car.

Cueva de Nerja
The spectacular and renowned caves, “Cueva de Nerja”, are a significant archaeological and geological discovery. Well worth a visit to learn more about their fascinating history and witness their impressive stalactites and stalagmites. These caves are among the largest in Europe, stretching approximately 5 kilometers. They were formed millions of years ago and remained hidden until 1959 when a group of boys searching for bats stumbled upon them. The acoustics inside the cave are exceptional, and for this reason, it is also used as a concert venue. The annual Festival de las Cuevas de Nerja is a popular event that includes music and dance performances in its unique atmosphere.

You can reach the site using the special Cueva Train, a hop-on/hop-off train with scheduled stops at the caves, Maro Square, the museum, and Parque Verano Azul. Taking the train can be a fun adventure itself, especially for younger children. Several companies also offer day trips with pick-up service from various hotels. The tours vary in duration, price range, and which hotels they pick up from. We recommend checking which option suits you best. Keep in mind that the caves can be cold, humid, and occasionally slippery, so an extra sweater and comfortable shoes are recommended.

Frigiliana
Consider visiting the village of Frigiliana and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere that prevails. Here, too, there is exciting history and cultural treasures to explore. Shop in the local merchants' stores with typical products from the region. For example, you can find ceramics, fruits, vegetables, and Spanish wines.

Caminito del Rey
If quiet walks in local villages are not what attracts you most, then there are tours to the Caminito del Rey. Here you walk on hanging footbridges that go through gorges and explore fantastic rock formations. You can also take pictures of spectacular views 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River while learning about the Gaitanes Gorge and the Caminito del Rey from a local guide. However, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that these tours are not suitable for children under the age of eight, people with mobility difficulties, or who suffer from a fear of heights.

Skiing
As a final and truly unique tip, for those longing for snow and skiing, there's Sierra Nevada, only 1.5 hours from Nerja. Gain access to one of Europe's most impressive ski resorts and enjoy skiing at altitudes of up to 3,400 meters with slopes up to 6 kilometers long! Sierra Nevada boasts over twenty lifts and has also hosted the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 2006 and the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in 2013. In addition to winter sports, Sierra Nevada offers opportunities for hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, and nature experiences year-round .

Shopping
Nerja
Combine shopping with breathtaking views by strolling along the picturesque streets of Nerja. Explore on your own or delve into its history with the help of a knowledgeable guide who will provide you with more insights about all the fascinating spots.
The main street, Calle Pintada, boasts several charming shops offering clothing, shoes, and souvenirs. Walk along the entire street that leads to the beautiful panoramic view of the Mediterranean, Balcon de Europa. A captivating place in the area of Nerja's Old Town, surrounded by palm trees, beautiful gardens, a promenade, and various restaurants. Don't miss visiting nearby shopping streets such as Calle Carabeo, Plaza Cavana, Calle El Barroo, Calle Malaga, and Calle Castilla Perez.

In less than 30 minutes by car from Nerja, you'll find Torre Del Mar, where many shops are in the town center. In Velez-Malaga, there is also a shopping center, El Ingenio, built on the site of an old sugar factory. Inside the centre, don't miss the display of some of the old factory machinery. Here, you'll find cinemas, fast-food restaurants, large supermarkets, and several stores with clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Malaga
A large city means a generous selection for the avid shopper, and Malaga doesn't disappoint. The main street, Calle Larios, is located in the heart of the city, which is also part of the beautiful Old Town that is worth experiencing. Just a stone's throw away, and a short beachfront walk, you'll find the harbor area, Muelle Uno, offering a diverse range of shops and restaurants. There are also plenty of shopping centers, including Larios Center and the well-known El Corte Inglés, one of the largest department store chains in Spain. They offer a wide variety of clothing, shoes, cosmetics, furniture, and much more. If you want to shop further outside the city center, Plaza Mayor is a large complex near Malaga Airport.
